Sharpen Your Skills in the Barn, Not Just the Classroom!
Join us for a hands-on Equine Dental Wet Lab designed to elevate your clinical confidence and practical technique. This immersive session gives veterinary professionals the chance to work directly with horses while learning essential dental skills - from oral exam fundamentals and instrumentation to identifying pathology, performing routine dental procedures, and refining your approach to sedation and safety.
Guided by Dr. Colleen Turner, you’ll gain real-time feedback, build muscle memory, and walk away with practical takeaways you can immediately apply in the field. Whether you’re strengthening your foundation or enhancing your advanced skills, this wet lab delivers meaningful, practice-ready learning in an engaging, supportive environment.
Perfect for veterinarians and technicians looking to expand their equine dentistry expertise - space is limited for an optimal hands-on experience!
Registration ends Monday, February 9 or when the lab is full.
In 1993 Colleen graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from CCS in Detroit before choosing the DVM over MFA path. She went on to Wayne State University, then MSU CVM to graduate with a DVM in 2001. She worked in both a mixed animal practice and an equine dental practice, soon limiting her practice to equine dentistry.
Colleen founded Veterinary Dental Referral Services (then Colleen M. Turner, DVM, PLLC) in 2011. In 2015 she began an alternate track to board certification with the AVDC. She credentialed in 2018 and passed all exams in 2024 to become the first veterinarian in Michigan board certified in Veterinary Equine Dentistry.
Colleen began seeing referral cases at MSU CVM as Assistant Professor on call for Large Animal Dentistry in 2003. She currently sees referral cases at seven additional clinics and hospitals regionally, as well as accepting radiographs and CTs from veterinarians nationwide for interpretation and case planning. She is building a clinic in Davison to see surgical cases and conduct CE in order to advance the level of veterinary equine and large animal dentistry being practiced post graduation and long into practitioner’s careers.
Colleen loves bringing equine, large animal and zoo dentistry to various groups, particularly children’s groups such as 4H and pony clubs.
Colleen’s family is made up of her three favorite people, a Standard Poodle, a zippy muttly, a cat who rules the house, a long-lived lizard, many, many plants, and four horses when she only wanted two. She loves to hike, bike, swim, read books and ride her horses when the kids aren’t monopolizing them. She is a passionate collector of art and she loves the art scene in her town of Flint. Last February she joined the crew from MSU headed up by Dr. Schott and traveled to Mexico with a group of fourth year vet students where they learned to practice vet medicine on the working horses of the region. It was one of the most rewarding things that she has had the privilege of doing in her career. In the summer, she spends several weeks on Mackinac Island, caring for the working horses, and several weeks on Beaver Island, caring for herself!
